SANDRA KAY VANN
Sandra Kay Vann, 55, Mays Valley, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at her home.
She was born Oct. 27, 1954, in Harriman.
She was a lifelong resident of Roane County.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She truly loved the Lord and her life was a living testimony.
She retired from the Roane County Board of Education in 1998 as a school teacher. She last taught at the Harriman Middle School.
She was preceded in death by: Parents, Lee Gilmore and Jette Ruth France Gilmore.
Survivors: Husband, Stanley Vann of Mays Valley; sons, Michael Vann and his wife Julie of Knoxville and Brent Vann of Livingston; grandsons, Ethan and Isaac Vann; brother, Rick Gilmore and his wife Vicki of Oliver Springs; in-laws, Robert and Faye Van; brother-in-law, Tony Vann, all of Oliver Springs; two nieces.
The family received friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
The funeral followed at 8 p.m. in the church with Pastor Nathan Barker officiating.
Burial and graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

BART PRATT
Bart Pratt, 75, Heiskell — Powell area, died Sunday March 7, 2010, at his residence.
He enjoyed carpentry work, fishing and being with his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by: Parents, Rosen and June Pratt; brother, Jack Pratt.
Survivors: Wife, Nellie Pratt of Heiskell; daughters, Shelly Lowe of Heiskell, Kim Pratt of Heiskell; sister, Betty Walker and husband Bill of Waynes, Va.; grandchildren, Chris Davis, Stanja Lowe, Shasta Gilliam and husband Tyler and Eddie Pratt; great grandchildren, Dillyn Davis, Easton Gilliam and Gabby Phillips
His family will receive his friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday March 10, 2010, at Jones Mortuary.
His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday March 11, 2010, in the chapel of Jones Mortuary with the Rev. Marty Stooksbury officiating with interment following at Cox Cemetery in Clinton.
Pallbearers will be Harold Cox, Eddie Pratt, Tyler Gilliam, Wayne Phillips, Alvin Lowe and Gary Sneed, special friend and honorary pallbearer Sam Reynolds.
Jones Mortuary in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements.

Loretta K. Powell, 80, Clinton, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
She was a member of Moran Baptist Church. She was a beloved neighborhood grandmother who loved doing things for others. She also enjoyed cooking.
She was preceded in death by: Husband, William Earl Powell; parents, Henry Clay and Anne Jane Barnes Kesterson; brothers, George, Leroy, Paul and Thomas Kesterson; sisters, Juanita Collins, Louise Kennedy.
Survivors: Daughter, Brenda Lane and husband Roger of Clinton; son, Earl Powell and wife Susan Kay of Clinton
Grandchildren, William Lane and wife DeDe, Dustan Powell and wife Tessa, Tonya Lane; great-grandchildren, Saul Powell, Jared Lane, Morgan Powell, Chloe Lane

The funeral service followed in the chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Seeber and the Rev. Donny Wallace officiating.
Interment was at 11 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2010, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton.

Minnie Frances Nicely Moody, 75, Heiskell, died Monday March 8, 2010, at Mercy Hospice of Halls.
She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and the Andersonville Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by: Husband, William Horace Moody; parents, Oscar and Ethel Nicely; brothers, the Rev. Oscar Nicely Jr., Ross Coy Nicely; sisters, Dorothy Clayton, Flossie Stooksbury, Ruby Blanch Nicely, Celia Alice Nicely; special friend, Ollie Elliott.

HAZEL IRENE McCREARY
Hazel Irene McCreary, 91, Manassas, Va., formerly of Clinton, died March 7, 2010, in Manassas, Va.
She was born in Bell County, Ky., Jan. 18, 1919.
She attended Union College in Barbourville, Ky., and earned her master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, National Education Association (NEA), Tennessee Education Association, Retired Teachers Association of Tennessee, Retired Teaches of Anderson County. She was also the treasurer of Delta Kappa Gamma PI Chapter for 38 years, receiving the “Top Treasurer” award from XI State.
PI Chapter established “The Hazel McCreary Classroom Grant Fund” to honor her for her many years of service to the society. The fund awards money goes to active members of the PI Chapters who need something special for the learning needs of their students.
She is preceded in death by: Parents, Gracie Vanbever and Taylor J. McCreary; brothers, Taylor L. (Evelyn), John R. (Lillian), Bernard L. (Hazel), Frederick E., George L. (Linda); sisters, Hallie (Henry Brown), Helen (Joseph Geraud); special nephew, Jerry McCreary.
Survivors: Many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 – 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Hopper Funeral Home in Barbourville, Ky.

FERN N. CANTRELL
Fern N. Cantrell, 95, Clinton, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at her home.
She was a member of Clinton First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for several years. She was a member of Timely Topics Garden Club and former member of the XYZ's. She taught school in Clinton and Claxton and retired from the Selective Service Board where she was the Draft Board Clerk.
She was preceded in death by: Husband, Wallace Cantrell; parents, J. Frank and Mackie Nelson.
Survivors: Daughter, Betty Smith and husband Charles E. of Clinton; son, James Cantrell and wife Jessie of Clinton; grandchildren, Kevin Cantrell of Clinton, Stefanie Pintoff and husband Craig of New York; great-grandchild, Maddie Pintoff.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Clinton First Baptist Church with funeral following at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Sam Dean, Rev. the Stan Elliott, and the Rev. Terry Baker officiating.

Neva Bowie
Neva Bowie, a captain at the Anderson County Detention Facility, died Thursday, March 4, at Methodist Medical Center after being hospitalized last week with a sudden illness.
Bowie, who joined the sheriff’s department in 1996, moved through the ranks at the jail from corrections officer to captain.
She was second-in-command at the jail.
Her husband, Danny, is a veteran law enforcement officer with the sheriff’s department and her son, Danny Jr., is a communications officer with the department.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m.
Law enforcement officers and friends will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home for a memorial procession to the Bowie home.
The Bowies are avid motorcycle riders. The family asks those who wish to ride their bikes in the procession.
