Kermit Bronell Reedy passed away at home May 17, 2013.

He was born April 5, 1930.

He was 83 years old.

Visitation will be held at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church 127 Lafayette Drive, Oak Ridge, from 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013.

Flowers are appreciated or donations can be made to the Cancer Support Community of East Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Reedy, and their children; son, Rolf Reedy; and daughter Pam Reedy and her husband Shelby Smith; grandson, Austin Keathley his wife Carrissa Keathley; granddaughter, Hannah Keathley and great-grandson Haiden Keathley, son of Austin and Carrissa.

He was preceded in death by: Oldest son Keith Reedy; parents, Vonnie Otto and Nora Jane Reedy; and half-sister, June Dufone.

A long-time Oak Ridge resident, he was born in Tazewell.

In his youth he worked for a radio station in Middlesboro, Kentucky where he was the station’s technician and one of their radio DJs. He graduated from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate with a bachelors of science in physics. In his early adult years he worked for Union Carbide Nuclear Company at the Y12 National Security Plant in Oak Ridge.

He left the employment for entrepreneurship. He was a self-employed contractor for many years building homes and businesses. He was a recreational pilot, building, owning and flying small engine aircrafts.

Barbara Anne Brown, 55, Oliver Springs, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013.

She was preceded in death by: Father, John Brown Jr.; and precious dog, Pebbles.

She is survived by: Mother, Cleopatra Halburnt Brown of Oliver Springs; sisters, Mary Sue Leagan and husband Gary of Virginia Beach, Va., Shirley Sweeten and husband Dan of Lenoir City and Linda Gilmore and husband Terry of Rockwood; brothers, John Brown of Harriman, James Brown and wife Vickie of Harriman, Edgar Brown and wife Diane of Oakdale, and Daniel Brown of Harriman.

She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family members and many special friends.

She graduated from Berea College in Berea, Ky., with a bachelors degree in business administration. She was a medical clerk in the Oak Ridge area for many years specializing in medical insurance claims and she was presently employed at Parkway Cardiology.

She was an active member of the Oliver Springs Historical Society, serving as secretary for many years while volunteering and working on many projects and events.

The family will receive friends from 1 – 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Sharp Funeral Home.

The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Todd Thomason, husband of Barbara’s niece Kristen, officiating.

Burial and graveside services will follow at the Oliver Springs Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Oliver Springs Historical Society.

James Melton, 75, Andersonville, a long-time resident of Northwest Indiana, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013, at Norris Health and Rehabilitation Center in Andersonville.

He was a devoted grandfather, and loved to fish. He lived in Northwest Indiana for more than 40 years before returning to Tennessee to retire. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was heavily involved in the Democratic Party for 30 years.

He was a member of Mount Pleasant Methodist Church in Andersonville.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, Zee and Reba Melton; daughter, Rebecca Kowalski; and sister, Betty Irwin.

He is survived by: Son, David Melton and wife Kim of Cocoa Beach, FL; daughter, Christine Melton of Springfield, Ore.; brothers, Clifton Melton and wife Judy of Clinton, Clayton Foust and wife Pam of Andersonville; sisters, Ruth and husband Bob Murphy of Clinton, June (Barbara) Henderson of Clinton, Faye (Virginia) McCoy of Andersonville; Sue Melton of Andersonville; grandchildren, Airman First Class Trevor Melton of McChord AFB, Wash., and Tara Melton of Glendale, Ariz.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

His family received his friends from 1 – 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013, in the chapel of Jones Mortuary. His graveside service followed his visitation at the Norris Memorial Gardens in Norris with the Rev. Larry Ridenour officiating.

John Edgar “Johnny” Nelson, 72, Lake City, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was born Sept. 2, 1940, in Lake City to the late Alvis and Cleo Ridenour Nelson.

He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Jacksboro. He enjoyed nature and being outdoors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bedford Nelson.

Survivors: Brother, Clifford Nelson and wife Margaret of Liberty Township, Ohio; sister-in-law, Samantha Nelson of Burlington, Ky.; nephews, David Nelson of Medeira, Ohio, Andy Nelson and family of Manchester, Ohio; niece, Debbie Dorris and family of Montgomery, Ala.; several other relatives, and a host of special friends.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Hunley officiating.

Interment at Longfield Cemetery in Lake City will follow the funeral service

Thomas Nolan, 78, Clinton, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was of the Baptist faith. He filled his life with dirt track racing, which he loved very much and his life revolved around it which was obvious by the trophies that he won.

He was preceded in death by: Mother, Mossie Nolan; sister, Edith Galeyda; and step-daughter, Marcia Hazel.

He is survived by: Brother, Junior Nolan and wife Mary Ann of Ohio; sister, Dora Justice and husband Don of Oliver Springs; brother-in-law, Andy Galeyda of Ohio; step grandsons, Chuck and James Wilson; step granddaughter, Hailey Hazel; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

His family and friends gathered from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Jones Mortuary to celebrate his life.

A memorial service followed at 4 p.m.with Bro. Robert Jones officiating.

Zachary Pelsor, a loving son, a devoted brother and a generous friend, age 21, Powell, passed suddenly from our hands into the loving arms of God Monday, April 29, 2013, peacefully at his home in Powell.

He inspired others with his generosity and thoughtfulness that few others could match. He displayed his love for others through kind gestures and comforting words. He had a deep love for children and was often found showing loving kindness to those in need. His favorite pass time was grilling out with his dad and enjoying fine cuisine. He enjoyed playing sports, working out, boating on the lake, vacationing and spending quality time with his family and friends.

Zachary is preceded in death by his grandfather, Louis Pelsor; great grandmother, Geneva Gillette; great grandparents, Willard and Inell Smith; and cousin, Stephanie Benton.

He is survived by: Parents, David and Maria Pelsor; brother, Josh Pelsor and Shelby Gowey; niece, Kenna; grandfather, Joe Trantanella; grandmothers, Melvina Trantanella, Maxine & Al Christy, and “Uncle” Barb Pelsor; uncle, David and Mona Trantanella and their children, Joseph and Jennifer; aunt, Leah and Keith Heifner and their children, Alayna, Amara, and Isaac; uncle, Mike and Jennifer Pelsor and daughter, Taylor; uncle, Mark and Missy Trantanella; aunt, Debbie Benton and daughter, Rebbeca; girlfriend, Amber Garofalo; all of his Lee cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

His interment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Grandview Memorial Garden in Clinton.

Lisa Diane Sharp, 49, Lake City, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Summit View of Lake City.

She was born May 3, 1963, in Oak Ridge.

She was of the Baptist Faith. She enjoyed writing poetry and her cat, “Drac.”

She was preceded in death by: Father, J. Victor Sharp Sr.; brother, J. Victor Sharp Jr.; and aunt, Ileine Lewallen.

Survivors: Mother, Leslie Hebert of Knoxville; sister, Sherrie Reinke of Ohio; best friends, Georgia Chadwick of Lake City, Sue Kennedy of Lake City, Willow Houston of Lake City; and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors at the Creekwood Apartments.

Bobby Frank Rutherford, 84, Clinton, passed away April 26, 2013, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Clinton. He was raised in Glen Alpine. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from the Navy reserves after 29 years. He graduated from Murray State in 1951. He retired from the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge after 42 years.

He loved playing softball and loved to bowl. He also enjoyed spending time on the beach.

Preceded in death by: Father, Frank Alonzo Rutherford; mother, Ruby Jane Rutherford; step-mother, Louise Rutherford.

Survivors: Wife of 61 years, Dorothy Wilson Rutherford; brother, Jackie Lee Rutherford and wife Catherine; daughter, Donna Rutherford Roberts and husband James David; sons, Joseph Frank Rutherford and wife Julia Beth, Douglas Wilson Rutherford and wife Jennifer Renee; grandchildren, Dustin James Roberts and wife Melissa Biafore, Winston Joseph Rutherford and wife Maelingua Dior, Derek Rutherford Roberts, Sarah Beth Rutherford, Evan Wilson Rutherford; great-grandchild, Sagen Satori Rutherford

Rebecca Sutton, 34, Lake City, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at the North Knoxville Medical Center in Powell.

She was born May 19, 1978, in Anderson County.

She was a member of Clear Branch Baptist Church. She liked to spend her time painting, sewing, making arts, crafts, and decorating. She also enjoyed spending her time with her fiancé and her cat, Maxamillion. She loved listening to her music, as well as crocheting, and doing fingernail art on herself and her friends.

She succumbed to an 18-year battle with cancer. She never met a stranger. Her great heart will be missed. She had a great love for everyone she met. Her faith is what carried her through the difficult years. Please don’t be sad for Becky; because she is now with her Dad, Dennis Wayne Sutton and her Heavenly Father.

Survivors: Mother, Kathy Diane Sutton; fiancé, Jesse McCarty; sister, Vicki Sutton and (Jeff); brother, Jamey Sutton and (Maryann); nieces, Renee Sutton and Angela Raven Marlow; nephews, Jesse Ray Marlow and Payton Wayne Sutton; closest friend, Melody Lynne Brittle; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Visitation was from 12:30 – 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Glen Emsley officiating.

Interment followed the funeral service at the Beech Grove Cemetery in Lake City.

He was a member of Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church. He loved fishing, gardening, bird watching, and camping. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and loved spending time with his family.
