Velo Classic next weekend; motorists asked to use caution
The Oak Ridge Velo Classic Road Race for bicyclists and hand cyclists will be held Saturday, Aug. 21.

The race will begin at 8 a.m. and is expected to last until late afternoon or early evening.

Sheriff’s deputies and race volunteers will be stationed along the route for traffic control. Motorists are asked to use extra caution when traveling in the following areas during the race.

Depending on the class, cyclists will have staggered start times throughout the morning. Riders will start at the rowing center near Oak Ridge Marina on Melton Lake Dr and travel the following route:

• Melton Lake Drive to Oak Ridge Turnpike;

• Oak Ridge Turnpike (State Route 95) to Oliver Springs Hwy;

• Oliver Springs Hwy (State Route 61) to Marlow Circle;

• Marlow Circle to Marlow Road;

• Marlow Road to Dutch Valley Road;

• Dutch Valley Road to Sulphur Springs Road;

• Sulphur Springs Road to Laurel Road;

• Laurel Road to Oliver Springs Hwy.

Laurel Road has been designated the “feed zone” where volunteers will pass out snacks and water to the riders.

The race will include a number of cyclists and, based on class, riders will complete up to five laps of the course.

CPR class offered Aug. 21
The Anderson County EMS will hold a free community CPR class Saturday, Aug. 21, at Grand Oaks Elementary School.

The class will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants will learn CPR, how to recognize heart attacks and strokes.

Attendees will receive the HeartSaver certification by the American Heart Association. Anderson County Commissioner Jerry White will provide lunch.

The class is limited to 30 so anyone who attends must register.

‘October Sky’ Fall Festival and ‘Rocket Boys’ reunion in October
The “October Sky” Fall Festival in Oiver Springs will be held from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Arowhead Park in Oilver Springs.

Vendors are still being accepted.
